"First Days" Lesson Plan

SAADA partnered with three NEH K-12 educators to create and implement lesson plans incorporating materials and strategies learned from SAADA’s 2024 NEH K-12 Institute.

Developed by high school educator Sanskruti Patel, this lesson plan engages students in a reflective exploration of immigrant experiences through SAADA's First Days Project. It invites students to conduct oral history interviews with family members, fostering intergenerational dialogue about migration and identity. Through guided reflection and group discussions, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the struggles, triumphs, and diverse narratives of immigrants, strengthening students' understanding of history and community.
